India's prestigious IndianOil SERVO  Surjit  Hockey  Tournament will be played here at the Olympian Surjit Singh polytan turf Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park from October 23.



Jalandhar,  Oct; 14  :  India's prestigious IndianOil SERVO  Surjit  Hockey  Tournament will be played here at the Olympian Surjit Singh polytan turf Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park from October 23.               According to Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, DC Jalandhar who is also President of Surjit Hockey Society that  the tournament is organized every year by Society to keep the name of Sardar Surjit Singh Randhawa, ex-Olympian alive, who lost his life in a fatal Car accident near Jalandhar on January 7th, 1984, while fighting hard for up-liftment of the National Game of Hockey in our Country.               The 34th edition of the IndianOil SERVO Surjit Hockey Tournament will be played fron October 23 to 31, 2017. The tournament would be played league-cum-knock out basis. 12 top ranking teams in of the country in the men section will exhibit their skills.  All the 12 teams in Men Section, including Last Year's Champion Punjab National Bank, Delhi and Runners up team Indian Army, New Delhi will take part in this 9 days hockey bonanza along with ONGC, Delhi, Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi, CAG New Delhi, Air India Mumbai, Indian Railways, IndianOil Mumbai, Indian Navy Mumbai, Indian Air Force Mumbai, Bharat Petroleum Mumbai & Punjab Police 8 top women teams in Women Section, including Last Year's Champion Western Railways, Mumbai & Runners up team Haryana-XI will take part along with North Central Railways Allahabad, RCF, Kapurthala,, Central Railways, Mumbai, UCO Bank, Punjab-XI, CRPF, Delhi.There will be 4 matches daily. The Last two Matches of the tournament will be played mostly under flood lights and no gate entry money will be charged from the spectators who will come to witness the game of hockey.   As in the past 27 years, this year also, the Asia’s largest and Leading Maharatna Oil Company IndianOil Corporation Limited will be the Main Title sponsor of the tournament. Punjab & Sing bak, Delhi, HDFC, bank, Punjab National Bank, Sonalika Tractors, IJM Group, Nakodar, Pukhraj, 24 SEVEN, Penticton (Canada) Gold's Gym, Jalandhar, Victoria Gardens, CT Group of Institutions, Jalandhar, Uppal Hospitality Group (UHG) of Hong Kong, Innocent Hearts, Jalandhar, Tracer Shoes, AGI Infra, DIPs Institutions, Pyramid College of Business, Rakshak Sports and State Bank of India will be the co-sponsors of the tournament. Total Cash Prize worth Rs. 15.00 Lakhs will given during the tournament. The Cash Award of Rs. 5.00 lacs to the Winner team is sponsored by NRI “Tut Brothers” of USA The Cash Award of Rs. 5.00 lacs to the Winner team is sponsored by the leading transporters, farmer and the Owners of California Eagles Team of the World Kabaddi League & NRI Tut Brothers of USA. As in the past, the best player of the tournament will get Mohinder Singh Tut Memorial Award along with a cash prize of Rs. 51,000 instead of Rs. 25,000. This prize is sponsored by Ranbir Singh Rana Tut of Victoria Gardens, Jalandhar.      Arrangements have been made for the LIVE telecast of both the Semi Finals & Final Match of the tournament on PTC Channels on 30th & 31st October, 2017, respectively. All India Radio, Jalandhar will also relay the 'Ball-to-Ball' running commentary of the final match.  Under the slogan “Watch Hockey--Win ALTO Car, Motor Cycles, Refrigerators and LCDs”, this year Surjit Hockey Society has also decided to award MARUTI ALTO Car, Motor Cycles, Refrigerators and LCDs to the Spectators, who will come to witness the Surjit Hockey matches. The ALTO Cars has been sponsored by " IJM Group, Nakodar", The main idea is to attract & to create more interest amongst the general public for our national game of Hockey. The spectators will get daily lucky coupons till Oct. 31 at the entrance of the gates of the stadium while players will be issued the lucky coupons on the day of their first match. The lucky draw for the ALTO Cars and other prizes will be held on October 31, soon after the final match           Renowned Punjabi Folk Singer Lakhwwnder Wadali will entertain the Spectators during the Cultural programme before the start of the final match on October 31st, 2017 from 5 PM onwards. NRI Mr. Gary Johal of Canada has sponsored the cultural programme. Mrs. Aruna Choudhari, Minister for Education, Punjab will inaugurate the Tournament whereas Mr. Rana Gurjit Singh, Minister for Irrigation & Power, Punjab would gave away the prizes to the finalists whereas Padamshree Pargat Singh, Olympian & former Skipper of the Indian Hockey Team will preside over, Mr. Sandeep Jain alongwith all the Local MLAs will be the Guest of Honour during the opening & final of the tournament.
