34th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament-2017 Punjab Police clinched the Title by beating ONGC Delhi by 2-1 Jalandhar October 31, 2017 Punjab Police clinched the title of 34th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament for the Sixth time by beating ONGC Delhi by 2-1 in the finals at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today. Earlier Punjab Police won this title in 2000 by beating Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi. Winners bagged prestigious Trophy and Rs 5 Lakh Cash Prize, which was sponsored by Tut Brothers USA. Runners up team got Trophy and Rs 2.50 Lakh, which was sponsored by C.T Group. Olympian Ramandeep Singh of Punjab Police declared best player of the Tournament. He bagged Rs 51000 Cash award which was sponsored by Ranbir Singh Rana Tut. Chief Guest Rana Gurjit Singh Cabinet Minister Punjab announced grant of Rs 11 Lakhs for the Surjit Hockey Society. Renowned Punjab Singer Lakhwinder Wadali gave his performance in front of Jam Packed Stadium. Finals was played on very fast note. In the 16th minute of the play Punjab Police got lead when their Olympian Ramandeep Singh scored the field goal from the pass of Olympian Akashdeep Singh (1-0). After that Punjab Police wasted three golden chance to consolidate. ONGC forwards Mandeep Singh and Gurjant Singh made some good moves but strong defence of Police gave no chance to them to equalize. At half time Punjab Police was leading by 1-0. In 48th minute Punjab police consolidate the lead when Olympian Akashdeep Singh scored field goal (2-0). In 65th minute of the play ONGC got the three penalty corners in a row, one third penalty corner their Diwakar Ram convert it to reduce the margin (1-2). After that ONGC tried hard but not able to equalize.
