35th IndianOil Surjit Hockey Tournament from October 23 “Watch Surjit Hockey--Win ALTO Car” Jalandhar, 21 Oct : ( ) : India's prestigious 35th IndianOil SERVO Surjit Hockey Tournament will be played here at the Olympian Surjit Singh polytan turf Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park from October 23. Tournament is organized every year by Surjit Hockey Society to keep the name of Sardar Surjit Singh Randhawa, ex-Olympian alive, who lost his life in a fatal car accident near Jalandhar on January 7th, 1984, while fighting hard for up-liftment of the National Game of Hockey in our Country. As in the past 28 years, this year also, the Asia’s largest and leading Maharatna Oil Company IndianOil Corporation Limited will be the Main Sponsor of the tournament. 35th edition of the IndianOil SERVO Surjit Hockey Tournament will be played from October 23 to 31, 2018. The tournament would be played on knockout-cum-league basis, in which 14 top ranking men teams of the country including last Year's Champion Punjab Police and runners up ONGC, New Delhi along with Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi, CAG New Delhi, Air India Mumbai, Indian Railways Delhi, IndianOil Mumbai, Indian Navy Mumbai, Indian Air Force Mumbai, RCF Kapurthala, BSF Jalandhar, CRPF Delhi, Punjab National Bank Delhi & Army-XI Delhi will exhibit their skills in this 9 days hockey bonanza. All the 11 teams have been seeded directly into League stage and divided in 4 pools, where as one team from knock out stage will qualify for league. The winner team of each pool team will qualify for the Semi Finals. Both men Semi Finals of the tournament will be played on 30th October, 2018 where as the finals will be player on 31st October, 2018. There will be 2 matches daily will be played under flood. Champion team will get a Cash Award of Rs. 5.00 Lakhs, sponsored by Tut Brothers of USA while Runners’ up will be pocketed a cash award of Rs. 2.5 lakhs. As in the past, the best player of the tournament will get Mohinder Singh Tut Memorial Award along with a cash prize of Rs. 51,000. This prize is sponsored by Ranbir Singh Rana Tut of Victoria gardens, Jalandhar. In this 9 days hockey bonanza, apart from the cash prizes to be given in lakhs to the players, under the slogan “Watch Surjit Hockey--Win ALTO Car”, this year also Surjit Hockey Society has decided to award MARUTI ALTO Car along with other prizes like Refrigerators, Motor cyccle and LCDs etc & Air Ticket to London. to the spectators, who will come to witness the Surjit Hockey matches. The main idea is to attract & to create more interest amongst the general public for our national game of Hockey. The spectators will get daily lucky coupons till October 31 at the entry gate of the stadium while players will be issued the lucky coupons on the day of their first match. The lucky draw for the ALTO Cars and other prizes will be held on Oct. 31, soon after the final match. The ALTO Cars has been sponsored by IJM Group of Nakodar whereas Air Ticket to London has been sponsored by AirWings travels, Mr. Harminder Singh and NRI Mr. Ravinder Singh Powar of UK. As in the past, this year also, no gate money shall be charged from the spectators who will come to witness the hockey matches. Renowned Punjabi Folk Singer Parmish Verma will entertain the spectators during the Cultural programme before the start of the final match on October 31st, 2018 from 5 PM onwards. NRI Mr. Gary Johal of Canada has sponsored the cultural programme. A full fledged Media centre has also been set up at Stadium with facilities like Computer with photoshop, telephone, internet/WiFi. Mr. Kulbir Singh Saini (mobile No. 9815600818), Media Advisor of Surjit Hockey Tournament has been appointed as Nodal Officer to make liaison with Electronic & Print Media during tournament. Mr. O.P. Soni, Minister for Education, Punjab will inaugurate the tournament whereas Padamshree Pargat Singh, Olympian & former Skipper of the Indian Hockey Team will preside over and other MLAs will be the Guest of Honours. Mr. Tript Rajinder Siongh Bajwa, Minister for Rural development & Panchayats, Punjab will gave away the prizes to the finalists whereas Mr. Sandeep Jain, Chief General manager, IndianOil alongwith will be the Guest of Honour during the final match.
