Army XI clinched title by beating Indian Railways by 5-4



35th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament Army XI clinched title by beating Indian Railways by 5-4 Jalandhar October 31st 2018 Army XI ckinced the title of 35th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament for the 2nd time by beating Indian Railways by 5-4 via sudden death in the finals here this evening at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium. In full time both teams were 1-1. Army won this title in 1996 and remains Runners up in 2016. Winners bagged Rs 5 Lakhs and Trophy and Runners Up bagged 2.50 Lakhs and Trophy. Where as Karanpal Singh of Indian Railways declared Best player of the Tournament, he received Mohinder Singh Tut Award along with Rs 51000/- Cash. Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Punjab gave away the prizes to the Winners. Rs 5 Lakh Prize sponsored by Tutt Brothers America, Rs 2.50 Lakh prize sponsored by Baba Tarwinder Singh Khana Desian where as best player award of Rs 51000/- was sponsored by Ranbir Singh Rana Tutt . Final match was played on very fast note. In the first half Railways wasted three penalty corners, where as Army’s Biraj Ekka missed the golden chance to score after beating Railways goal keeper Jugraj Singh. At the end of first half both teams were goalless draw. In the second half’s 42nd minute Railways showed good combination of their forwards, their Rajin Kandulna netted the ball from left flank (1-0). In the 61st minute Army’s Chandan Aind scored the equalizer from top of the striking circle (1-1). At the end of stipulated time both teams were locked at 1-1. In penalty Shootout Army XI beat Indian railways by 4-3. Before the Finals Punjabi Singer Parmeesh Verma performed in front of huge spectators. Boys and Girls of DAV Engineering Institute performed Bhangra.
